Everyone has their own favorite dance but there are just some kinds of dances that a great majority of people seem to love. In the United States, it is easy to observe which kinds of dances are popular by looking that the different dance studios and ballrooms throughout the country. And there are 15 dances that truly stand out from the rest:

  1. Cha cha – this is said to be the youngest Latin dance in the country but it is easily one of the most popular.
  2. Disco – disco dance traces its roots to swing dancing but there are many incarnations of this dance.
  3. Foxtrot – when people think of foxtrot, they associate it with smooth dancing. This is a favorite among men because the dance is simply like walking or strolling.
  4. Mambo – this is the Latin equivalent of the swing dance. There are a lot of Mambo enthusiasts in the country ever since it was included in 1943.
  5. Salsa – the Salsa is a spin-off from the Mambo nevertheless it has its own identity. The Salsa is often referred to as the street version of the Mambo dance.
  6. Merengue – this is national dance in the Dominican Republic and it is widely popular in the United States as well.
  7. Polka – this is a quick and lively dance that was introduced by in the Czech Republic. There are many versions of this dance and the version in the United States involves less turning.
  8. Rumba – “rumba” is actually a genetic word because it covers many kinds of West Indian dances. These dances are slow and romantic.
  9. Samba – the Samba has a contagious and lively rhythm that makes people want to dance. This originated in Brazil but it is a popular dance all over the world.
  10. Slow dance – there are many kinds of slow dances; these kinds of dance were actually made by ballroom instructors. Slow dances are great for romantic ballads that are popular today.
  11. Swing – this is an all-American dance that was introduced by the Black community. Swing is an upbeat dance and people have fun dancing this.
  12. Tango – it traces its origins from Argentine, Spanish, and Brazilian influences. The Tango is a dance wherein the dance partners are almost chest to chest so it creates immediately intimacy.
  13. Viennese Waltz – this is almost the same as the Waltz but this waltz is more rapid with continuous circling around the room.
  14. The Waltz – this is one of the greatest dances ever invented. It shocked a lot of people when it was first introduced because of the shared intimacy between dance partners but it is widely accepted now.
  15. Country Western – the Country Western dance is catching a lot of attention these days because of its great dance moves.
